Many chronic illnesses and complaints involve hormonal imbalances; from menopause symptoms to asthma and skin rashes, or prostate problems to fatigue and migraines. The assessment involves a thorough history and physical exam with the doctor to determine which hormone systems are likely to be involved with the problem, and then testing of hormone levels to establish a baseline and a structured treatment plan. Samples can include saliva, urine and blood. Some will have to be collected at home over time, others can be collected in the office at the time of the visit. Balancing hormones correctly is a very complex process that often involves taking multiple diferrent hormones simultaneously and adjusting the doses repeatedly over time. It is generally well worth the effort and results can be fast and dramatic for many chronic illnesses. |
