Patient Education

New! Check out our American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) Self-Care Charts and Patient Handouts!

The "Self-Care Charts" will allow you to search and determine possible solutions for  physical symptoms by the use of flow charts.

The "Patient Handouts" will allow you to learn more information about a particular condition.  Search by the first letter of the topic of interest.

  • General Patient education is the key to making our patients better, and we take it very seriously at Mat-Su Integrative Medicine.
  • Vitamin D

Vitamin D deficiency is the most common vitamin deficiency in the country, and has far-reaching health consequences.  It influences bone and muscle strength, neurological and psychiatric health, immune system function and other important processes.

  • Heavy Metal Toxicity

Heavy metals such as Mercury, Lead, Arsenic and Cadmium are far more common in our modern environment than people realize and create a wide range of common health problems and complaints.

The most common complaint is probably:  "I've been to 5 different doctors and none of them seem to be able to figure out what's wrong with me or offer me any help!"

  • Adrenal Fatigue

If you feel tired all day (especially in the morning), have trouble focusing and concentrating, find yourself getting ill more frequently and can't seem to recover from activity that used to be easier - you may have "burned-out" your adrenal glands.

    But there's hope!

  • Diabetes

Diabetes Mellitus techinically means "sweet urine", due to the way it used to be diagnosed before lab tests were available.  There are two distinct types - Type 1 and Type 2.

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that usually occurs in childhood and is essentially irreversible.

Type 2 diabetes is almost always a result of lifestyle issues in combination with genetic predisposition, and in most cases should be completely reversible with lifestyle modification and nutritional supplementation.

  • Exercise Aerobic exercise such as walking has been the traditional recommendation of most doctors - unfortunately this is not an effective way to lose weight.  Other types of exercise can lead to sustained weight loss and increases in fitness with much less time invested.
  • Male Hormone Replacement Men go through a hormonal change (decline) very much like women do in menopause.  This phenomenon is usually referred to as "Andropause" (but you may call it "MANopause" if you want.
