Does it hurt?

Generally there is little or no pain when the needle goes through the skin.  The needles are very thin, and a skilled acupuncturist places them very quickly and smoothly while distracting the sensory nerves with pressure from a fingertip.

There is a second 'hurt' with acupuncture that is very individualized, and mostly out of the practitioner's control.  When the needle reaches the correct location under the skin, the patient has a 'glowing' achey sensation that feels very distinctive.  This is perceived as painful by some, but most patients come to appreciate this feeling as a sign that the treatment is going to work for them.  The degree to which you perceive this depends on your age, energy and vitality level, location and depth of the needle insertion.

Dr. Vincent has treated hundreds of patients, and the great majority have had positive experiences without significant complaint of pain.
